Far more challenging in top grades than Michael's famous 1986 Fleer rookie is "Air's" second-year 1987 Fleer card #59, offered here in BGS 9.5 GEM MINT condition, and showcasing the older BGS gold flip, which many collectors believe indicates a stricter grading standard at Beckett. One of just 44 total examples from 2,764 submissions to attain GEM from the Dallas-based grading firm, compared to 131 examples from 1986, from 4,778 submissions. That's a rate of 2.74% for the rookie, compared to just 1.59% for the second-year issue, and yet the second-year issue has been selling at modestly discounted prices lately, despite how red hot almost every other Jordan collectible has been since his recent September 2009 election into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. Mildly off-centered to the lower left, which explains the MINT 9 subgrade for centering, with perfect GEM MINT to PRISTINE features elsewhere.
