"Big Jim" Schrader attended Notre Dame in the early 1950s and played under famous "Fighting Irish" coach Frank Leahy, who had previously served as line coach at Fordham University and was instrumental in developing Fordham's famous "Seven Blocks of Granite," arguably the greatest college offensive line ever. At Notre Dame, Leahy's instruction helped "Big Jim" and his fellow linemen pave the way for Heisman Trophy winning running back Johnny Lattner. Jim was then drafted in the second round of the 1954 NFL Draft, and would go one to play 10 seasons for the Redskins and Eagles, never once enjoying a winning record but at least earning three appearances to the Pro Bowl, in 1958, '59, and '61. Offered here is one of Jim's heavily used #51 Redskins road gamers from the muddy and bloody NFL trenches of the early 1960s. Manufactured by Sandknit, this durene jersey is off-white and showcases single tackle twill numbering on both the front and back as well as on both sleeves. Double-layered at the elbows, which show tremendous use, with size "48" noted on the Sandknit tag in the customized tail. LOAs Mears (A10) and Mile High Card Co.
