The 1954 St. Louis Cardinals team was characterized with many highs and lows. Stan "The Man" Musial continued to dominate the senior circuit, posting a .330 batting average, one of four Cardinals starters to surpass the .300 mark, with 35 homers and 126 runs batted in. On the mound, ace Harvey Haddix won 18 games and Brooks Lawrence posted a 15-6 record in his rookie season. Defensively, however, the ball was often kicked around as much as it was fielded, with 146 errors recorded in 154 games. A team ERA of 4.50 was no help either. But when the Cardinals were at their worst, it was the energetic play of Solly Hemus that would get them back on track. A middle-infielder and pinch hitter extraordinaire, Hemus often provided the spark on those rare days that Musial and Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst weren't quite up to the task. For the connoisseur of high-quality vintage jerseys, Mile High proudly offers this game-used Solly Hemus jersey from the 1954 St. Louis Cardinals season. The stitched “Rawlings” label appears inside the back collar and is flagged "40" for jersey size. The front zipper slides easily, splitting the embroidered Cardinals logo, which exhibits light to moderate fraying along the zipper line. Several small holes and thinning of the flannel fabric are apparent, most notably on the right shoulder and left sleeve, with a cursive, red-stitched "S Hemus" on the front left tail. The reverse "7" is single stitched and shows no sign of wear. Overall, a stunning vintage gamer in excellent condition! LOA from Mile High Card Co.
