"Ain't this a daisy?" We love the period lithography on these 19th century trade cards, produced in the 1880s to promote the publication and sale of Philadelphia's famous newspaper, The Sporting Life, which would of course later bring us the coveted W600 Sporting Life Cabinets, the W601 Sporting Life Team Composites, and the M116 Sporting Life baseball cards, all in an effort to keep its readership from switching over to its main competitor, The Sporting News. Offered in this lot is a group of eight cards, all ranging in grades from SGC 40 VG 3 down to SGC 10 POOR 1 and SGC Authentic, and all but one are from the same H804-8B issue. Cards measure approximately 2-3/4" across by 4-3/4" in length and are in remarkably presentable condition given their low technical scores. Our personal favorite is the issue entitled "The Sporting Life Fiend" (SGC 20), which shows a frazzled, cigar-smoking, sports fanatic intently scouring the box scores before a mess of sports equipment and pictures. Also included are "Our Baseball Manager" (SGC 40), "Catcher at the End of the Seasons" (SGC 40), "Curve for this Season" (SGC 30), "Hold It" (SGC 30), "Judgment" SGC 20, "Old and Young Are" (SGC 10, H804-A8), and "Aint this a Daisy" (SGC A).
