Bolstered by the anticipated interest in upcoming rookie Lew Alcindor, Topps returned to the hardwood after a 12-year hiatus with one of the most attractive basketball sets ever produced. In fact, Alcindor's inclusion in the set marks the only time until the 1980's that a "pre-rookie" card was issued by Topps. Befitting of a sport for the vertically superior, the 1969 Topps cards measure 2-1/2" by 4-11/16" and are now commonly referred to as "tall boys." A complete run numbers just 99 cards, well over half of which are rookie issues, highlighted by Alcindor, John Havlicek, Bill Bradley, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, and Walt Frazier. Also included are important HOF issues of "Wilt the Stilt" Chamberlain and Jerry West. Offered in this lot is a complete 1969/70 Topps basketball set with the Topps Rulers insert set, which were distributed with the cards, one per pack. The condition of the set ranges from VG to NM with an EX average while the ruler inserts all appear NM/MT or better. Aforementioned key cards rate as follows: Alcindor (VG/EX), Havlicek (EX), Bradley (EX/MT stain), Robertson (NM), Baylor (EX/MT), Frazier (EX), Chamberlain (EX+ with crease), and West (EX/MT).
