The 1962 Topps football issue has long been considered one of the most challenging gridiron sets ever produced due to suspect centering and its susceptible black-bordered edges. Not only is it a challenge to find presentable copies in any grade, but the '62 set is positively packed with challenging short-prints as well as a host of high-demand rookies cards like Mike Ditka (graded PSA 6 EX/MT) and Fran Tarkenton. Other challenging short-printed rookie issues include Alex Hawkins, Ernie Davis, Fuzzy Thurston, Roman Gabriel, Tommy Mason, Norm Snead, as well as a lengthy list of HOFers, including Unitas, Brown, Starr, Hornung, and others. Offered here is a complete 176-card assembly in VG condition overall with the following conservative break down: 5% EX/MT or higher, 10% EX, 30% VG/EX, 30% VG, and 25% G/VG or lower. Keys conservatively grade as follows: #1 Unitas VG/EX, 28 Brown G/VG, 36 Davis G, 39 Meredith VG, 63 Starr VG, 64 Hornung VG, 76 Checklist POOR, 90 Tarkenton POOR, 104 Gifford VG+, 176 Checklist VG+.
