Graded NM/MT 8 by PSA. Less than 4% of all graded examples have achieved a grade of NM/MT 8 by PSA with a mere ten examples having graded higher than the offered copy. At the time the photo for this card was taken Mantle was wearing number six and not his customary number seven. Born in Spavinaw, OK and reared in Commerce, OK, Mickey was a prodigy by the time he reached the big leagues, having been called the greatest prospect he had ever seen by none other than Joe DiMaggio. The offered card stands at the very precipice of the next grading tier and easily qualifies as one of the finest examples of this card graded NM/MT 8 by PSA that we have ever had the pleasure of offering. Expertly centered with equal snow white borders holding the image of a young slugger. Precisely focused with excellent registration and focus of the image. Deep well-defined flesh tones in the Mick's face as well as the deep blue of his Yankee cap and the gray of his away jersey are balanced against a sky full of fluffy clouds. The four corners are one of the most spellbinding attributes, with each of the points projecting above the stringent standards of the opined grade. The reverse is well printed and void of interruption. In conclusion this is one of the finest examples to be offered in a NM/MT 8 grade in quite some time and a definite candidate for an upgrade. Presented in alluring and completely satisfying strong NM/MT condition.
