The career of 21-year veteran fireballer John Smoltz has been unique, to say the least! A perennial All-Star as a starting pitcher, including a Cy Young award-winning 1996 season and an amazing 17-3 record in 1998, Smoltz missed the entire 2000 season due to injury, returning in 2001 ... as a closer. From 2001-2004, Smoltz picked up 154 saves with a combined 2.65 ERA and averaged over a strikeout per inning. Then in 2005, he resumed his role as a starter, winning 44 games over the next three seasons, including a league high 16 in 2006. As the only member of the 200 win, 150 save club, it's a safe bet that Smoltz has already punched his ticket to Cooperstown.
