While the 1990 Topps baseball card set certainly won't be going down in history as one of the best that Topps had to offer, it will always be remembered as the home to one of the rarest and most coveted variations of any modern-day card, if you're lucky enough to find one. Like the scarce 1957 Topps Gene Baker and 1958 Topps Pancho Herrera variations that were the result of defects in the printing process, a small amount of 1990 Topps Frank Thomas rookie cards made their way past the quality control department at Topps and released to the public carrying a blank nameplate. There's no telling precisely how many of these "error" cards made their way into the hands of collectors (some have speculated the number to be around 500 though many believe it to be considerably lower), but with over 12,500 of the correct card on record as having been graded by PSA and only about 200 "no names" on the pop report, it can't be very many. Graded PSA 9, one of only 19 with just one graded higher. Excellent centering with nearly perfect colored edges and endpoints account for the high grade. A true rarity, it would be a highly coveted card if it was just a common, but it becomes a "must-have" for any advanced collector considering it's a rookie card of a Hall of Famer and a member of the honorable 500-home run club.
