Baseball was becoming so popular by the 1970s that images of players were being utilized as an enticement to sell just about everything. Here's one such promotion that's a bit out of the ordinary; Topps Candy Lids that were the top of a product called "Baseball Stars Bubble Gum." Fifty-five different player portraits surrounded by a solid colored border and a ribbon identifying the subject, position, and team name make up the offered oddball lids which feature most of the stars of the game. The overall condition of this overlooked and undervalued complete set is about NM as the images on the pristine cardboard disks are rarely centered within the circle. A very colorful and highly elusive collectible assemblage.
