Besides the tribute card of Roberto Clemente, who passed in a plane crash on New Year's Eve of the previous year, the '73 Topps issue is significant for a number of reasons. It was the last time that Topps issued cards in series format, a practice that resulted in scarce high-number cards over the years. More importantly, the card stock used for the series was of poorer quality, making for danger-prone corners and edges. Coupled with the black-bordered reverse, as well as notorious centering and print problems, it's easy to see why the set is so difficult to obtain in NM or better condition. The offered collection is top-notch, rating 50% NM/MT, 40% NM and 10% EX/MT and features NM/MT examples of #100 Aaron, 130 Rose, 170 Killebrew, 175 F. Robinson, 220 Ryan(OC), and 255 R. Jackson. NM cards include #1 Home Run Leaders, 50 Clemente, 142 Munson, 174 Gossage RC, 245 Yastrzemski, 305 Mays (NM+), 350 Seaver NM, and 616 Schmidt RC. Card #380 Bench is EX/MT.
