Beginning with the horizontally formatted 1960 series and testing the waters with various design changes, coveted insert cards, and several test issues, the Topps Chewing Gum company closed out the turbulent decade of the 1960s with its most expansive issue to date, a 664-card collection that remains extremely popular among collectors to this day. Along with the highly-prized rookie card of Hall of Fame inductee Reggie Jackson, the set contains the final cardboard representation of Mickey Mantle, who had retired at the start of spring training. The sheer size of the set, combined with these many quality control obstacles, makes it difficult for set-builders looking to compile only high-end examples, however the burden of amassing a top-notch assemblage has already been done for the winning bidder of this collection, ranked #23 on the PSA Set Registry with an overall GPA of 8.15 and every card rated at PSA 8 or better. In all, 82 cards in the set are graded PSA 9, including #20 Banks, with 46 cards graded PSA 8.5 (including #95 Bench and 485 Perry) and every other card graded PSA 8.
