When Mickey Mantle stepped to the plate for the last time in 1968, it wasn't just the conclusion of a brilliant career for "The Mick" but also signaled the end of Mantle's likeness on a Topps card ... or so we thought. From his debut pasteboard in 1952 and throughout the 50s and 60s, Topps' rise to prominence was directly tied to the popularity of "The Commerce Comet." And although he announced his retirement in advance of the 1969 season, Topps understandably printed one last tribute card in the 1969 Topps series, popular among collectors because it allows for his full career statistics to be shown on the reverse. The featured example is a stunning PSA 9 MINT beauty with a sharp, colorful image of the aging Mantle and a chip-free salmon reverse that completes the package, making it one of the finest examples of Mickey Mantle's farewell by the Topps company.
