The great thing about league leaders cards is they always feature the best of the best, whether it's the photos on the front or the extensive list of players on the back. It seems logical as in order to lead the league in an offensive category, or at least be among the leaders, you at least had one really good year and probably many more than that. The RBI leader of 1966 was Hank Aaron, followed by Roberto Clemente, Richie Allen and Willie Mays, all among the best players of the decade if not all of baseball. But as enticing a card as the 1967 Topps NL RBI leaders issue is, PSA had graded over 1,000 examples without finding a specimen worthy of its vaunted GEM MINT status. But that streak is now over as this recently graded example has hit the mark, becoming the first and only specimen to emerge victorious with a PSA 10 rating. It really doesn't take any more that a quick glance to see why, with the brightness of the perfect centering, depth of the black framing and perfect registration of the superstar trio yielding to edges and endpoints that are more pristine than examples that are somehow still sitting in unopened packs. The lime green reverse is plenty vivid over a half-century later with a lightly toned white canvas that offers a black-printed cavalcade of stars. Top-ranked 1967 Topps set-builders have been waiting for a fresh GEM MINT one of one to come along to shake up the PSA Set Registry and this is one of the most significant to see the light of day in some time!
