Sometimes overlooked when discussing the more collectible sets from the 1960s, the 1964 set can be deceptively tough for advanced high-grade collectors. For starters, the full-bleed colored borders on the reverse are susceptible to chipping, and the trivia "rub-off" area is often compromised. Additionally, fronts are often found off-center and often times exhibit less-than-perfect registration. The offered complete set, however, has overcome these hurdles and is in overall strong high-grade condition. Of the 587 cards, a total of 271 have been graded, with 200 of these earning NM/MT 8 status. There are also two cards graded MINT 9, one card graded NM/MT+ 8.5, and 68 cards residing in NM 7 holders. All of the major key cards in the set are among the NM/MT 8 specimens, including Mantle, Berra, Mathews, Mays, Koufax, Maris, Kaline, Aaron, Clemente, Ford, Gibson, Spahn, B Robinson, F Robinson, and Rose, and the ungraded portion is equally compelling and ready to be sent in for grading, rating approximately 35% NM/MT, 40% NM and 25% EX/MT or lesser. The few keys that are ungraded are: 120 Drysdale NM+, 175 Williams NM/MT, 210 Yastrzemski EX/MT, 331 AL Bombers NM, 423 Tops in NL EX, 433 Yankee Team NM/MT, and 468 Perry NM.
