Intended to be a much larger production, the 1963 Fleer baseball set was cut short at just 66 cards as a result of a lawsuit filed by Topps. The cardboard behemoth had already engaged most MLB players into contracts and when they learned of the Fleer endeavor, they filed an injunction and a court order halted the production. The surviving cards, which did include such major stars as Willie Mays, Sandy Koufax, Roberto Clemente and Carl Yastrzemski, were issued with a cookie rather than chewing gum. Offered here is a complete set, minus the overly-scarce checklist, with three cards having been graded by PSA: Yastrzemski NM/MT+ 8.5, Koufax NM 7 and Clemente MINT 9 (ST). The ungraded portion of this set grades approximately 20% NM/MT, 35% NM, 35% EX/MT and 10% EX, with typical centering issues affecting the technical assessments of many otherwise fresh examples. Ungraded keys include 4 B Robinson EX/MT, 5 Mays EX/MT, 32 Santo EX/MT+, 41 Drysdale NM, 45 Spahn NM/MT (OC), 61 Gibson EX/MT.
