Like the 1956 card from his Triple Crown season, the 1961 Topps card of Mickey Mantle holds a special place in the hearts of pinstripers for his home run race with Roger Maris to take down "The Babe's" single-season record. Although it's not amongst the tougher Mantle cards, the featured collectible easily meets or exceeds the stringent qualifications of a MINT 9 grade by PSA. A precise and exceptionally well-defined image is the first attribute encountered by the enthusiast, noticeably absent of annoying stray print, as well as the nearly perfectly centered image. Each of the four corners stand tall as MINT or GEM MINT with a dizzying dose of stunning gloss completing the obverse. The reverse is a splendid, deeply inked bio set forth against a green and gray stock the finishes off this masterpiece in style. Only one has graded higher at PSA.
