The 1960 Topps baseball card release is well known among hobbyists for its strong crop of rookie cards, most notably that of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski and fellow Cooperstown inductee Willie McCovey, as well as the usual and expected plethora of period stars. The Topps decision makers reverted to the horizontal format not seen since 1956, with the exception of certain multi-player cards, which would turn out to be the final utilization of that design. A close-up, full color portrait shot occupies about 60% of the obverse surface, with a smaller black and white image nestled beside it and a rather large, colored nameplate featuring players' names lettered in alternating colors. Offered here is a stunning high-grade complete set, 572 cards in all, with 207 of those having been graded by PSA. Of the graded specimens, 186 are in NM/MT 8 holders, including the vast majority of the major stars, not the least of which being Mickey Mantle. The ungraded portion of this set is in equally high-grade condition, being approximately 60% NM/MT, 30% NM and 10% EX-EX/MT, with 73 Gibson NM (MC), 100 Fox NM, 240 Aparicio NM, and 565 Maris AS EX. In short, this is a gorgeous compilation of the issue that ushered in the '60s, painstakingly assembled over the years by our consignor, and ready to be taken to a new home.
