The 1959 Topps set is light on key rookie cards (save for Bob Gibson) but strong on superstars, and any world-class set builder knows the Willie Mays card is a tough find at the MINT level. The offered card has breezed its way into the lofty MINT category with noticeably strong marks in every perceivable way, placing it squarely at the doorstep of GEM MINT status. Uniform MINT to GEM MINT edges and corners surround a perfectly centered and accurately registered image, free of all the major blemishes that usually accrue in the brilliant yellow backdrop. The reverse is equally up to the task, sporting an unusually bright canvas of deep red and green print. An exceptionally strong example.
