The largest gum set issued up to the year of production, the 572-card 1959 Topps set is so expansive due to the inclusion of a number of subsets, such as the iconic 22-card All Star series (a continuation of the popular 1958 subset), a 31-card "Rookie Stars" selection, a 10-card "Baseball Thrills" series, team cards with checklists, and of course the popular multi-player cards, with such memorable issues as "Fence Busters" (Aaron/Mathews), "NL Hitting Kings" (Mays/Ashburn), "Corsair Outfield Trio" (Clemente, etc.), "Keystone Combo" (Aparicio/Fox), and many others. With Ted Williams famously signing an exclusive baseball card contract with Fleer in 1959, it's almost as if Topps tried to overcompensate for his absence with its largest, most comprehensive and creative set to date. This complete set includes 30 PSA graded cards with PSA 8 examples of #380 Aaron, 439 B. Robinson, 478 Clemente, and 515 Killebrew as well as PSA 7 specimens of #50 Mays, 202 Maris, 350 Banks, and 564 Mantle all-star. Other PSA 8 cards are #25, 45, 90, 105, 147 Cubs' Clubbers, 240, 294, 308, 357, 381, 385, 408 Keystone Combo, 458, 464 Mays' Catch, 486, 512, and 550 Campanella. PSA 7 cards are #17, 212 Fence Busters, 317 N. L. Hitting Kings, 470 Musial 3000th Hit, and 508. Card 484 is graded GAI 8.5 and #565 is graded GAI 8. The rest of the set breaks down as 5% NM/MT, 20% NM, 30% EX/MT, 30% EX, and 15% VG/EX. Key cards include #1 Frick EX, 20 Snider VG/EX, 40 Spahn VG, 150 Musial VG/EX, 163 Koufax EX/MT, 180 Berra VG/EX (glue on front), 360 Kaline EX, 387 Drysdale EX, 430 Ford EX, 435 F.
