The 1957 Topps Baseball issue remains a landmark set in our beloved hobby for a multitude of reasons. Not only did the Topps team make the move to a marginally smaller card at 2-1/2" by 3-1/2", thereby setting the standard that both Topps and its competitors still follow today, but perhaps more importantly it also marks the first effort on behalf of Topps to utilize full color photographs in the production of its gum cards, an intricate process requiring extreme precision in the layering of colors comprising each and every card. As a result, it is quite common to encounter low to mid-grade examples with severe registration issues. Additionally, the two famous multi-player cards featured within the final series of the set, "Dodger Sluggers" and "Yankee Power Hitters," would firmly establish a trend for similarly appealing multi-player cards in future sets. Topps also decided to increase the size of its 1957 set back to its original 1952 size of precisely 407 cards, perhaps a reflection of the continually increasing interest in the cardboard keepsakes. Offered here is a nearly complete set of the beloved pasteboards, missing only card #328 Brooks Robinson RC, in overall high-grade condition, with a total of (120) professionally graded examples including nearly all of the major stars and keys to the set. The graded portion included 5 cards graded NM/MT+ 8.5 by PSA (24 Mazeroski, 29, 35 F Robinson, 50, 371); 2 cards graded PSA NM 7 (1 Williams, 90 Spahn), and 4 cards graded GAI 8 NM/MT (115, 175, 215, 215). The remainder of the graded cards included here are all unqualified PSA 8 NM/MT treasures, including Mantle, Clemente, Berra, Mays, Aaron, Drysdale, and Snider. The ungraded portion is in equally appealing condition, grading approximately 45% NM/MT, 45% NM and 10% EX/MT, with card number 97 Yankees Team in the NM/MT range.
