Although Topps' 1956 checklist was void of the big-name rookie, it was a monumental year for the company. After being exclusive to Bowman for two years, 1956 marked the return of Mickey Mantle for Topps and opened the door for the company to become a powerhouse in the baseball card industry. Continuing the success from the previous year, Topps kept the horizontal dual image design with a portrait of the player layered against a color action scene. The 1956 set is regarded as one of Topps' most attractive and desired releases. Star cards in this set include #2 Williams VG, 10 Spahn GOOD (ST), 15 Banks VG (MC), 20 Kaline GOOD, 30 Robinson VG, 31 Aaron PR, 33 Clemente GOOD, 79 Koufax GOOD, 101 Campanella GOOD, 107 Mathews VG (OC), 110 Berra GOOD, 130 Mays VG, 135 Mantle PR, 150 Snider VG, 164 Killebrew GOOD, 200 Feller VG (MC), 240 Ford PR, 251 Yankees TC PR, 292 Aparicio VG. Overall VG/EX 10%, VG 35%, GOOD 40% with 15% Lower.
