Graded PSA 9 MINT with 9 competitors in its class and just 1 higher from well over 1,500 submissions to PSA, offered is one of the finest known specimens of Ted Williams' 1954 Topps card #250, an extremely popular card marking Teddy Ballgame's return to baseball after his second significant stint as a fighter pilot in the Marine Corps, having first served in World War II, this time serving in Korea. In total, Ted would serve nearly five years in the military, all during the prime of his career, making it nearly impossible to imagine what he would have accomplished on the diamond had he not been so darn valuable in the sky. Indeed, the very same set of skills that made him such a devastating hitter--reflexes, coordination, and visual reaction time--made him even more devastating behind the airborne guns of F9F Panther. In fact, Ted was said to have been the single finest trainee many of his instructors had ever seen. Talk about a cool cat! Not only was Teddy a world famous ballplayer, arguably "the greatest hitter who ever lived," but he was also a world class fighter pilot as well. Marking his return to baseball late in the 1953 seasons, The Topps Company would famously feature his likeness on both the first and final cards of their 1954 Baseball set. Offered is a near perfect example of the latter version, which displays a host of appealing high-end qualities. The corners and edges are nearly perfect, the image is precisely registered, and the surface displays virtually no traces of extraneous print whatsoever. The self-evident centering, well within the bounds of PSA's stipulation for MINT, may just be its only non-GEM MINT feature. An incredibly significant card in stunning and superior MINT condition.
