Graded NM/MT+ 8.5 by SGC. Of the 239 copies of this cards that have been graded by the astute graders at the New Jersey based grading organization the featured card is 1 of just 6 copies that has been graded NM/MT+ 8.5 with just one copy having been graded MINT 9.Carl Yastrzemski once said of his predecessor, "They can talk about Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby and Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio and Stan Musial and all the rest, but I'm sure not one of them could hold cards and spades to Ted Williams in his sheer knowledge of hitting. He studied hitting the way a broker studies the stock market, and could spot at a glance mistakes that others couldn't see in a week." Offered is a stunning rendition of one of the hobby's most revered cards, the 1954 Bowman #66 Ted Williams, a card that was withdrawn from production because of contractual obligations that Williams had with new arch-rival Topps. The featured example hails as one of the finest examples of this revered card that we have ever offered. Pleasingly well centered with four utterly flawless corners that test the boundaries of the assessed grade. The picture quality is second to none and is void of the pesky flecks of print that so commonly plague the background clouds, the colors are over the moon with the life like flesh tones in Ted's face lifting this card to exalted levels! The reverse is perfectly struck allowing the perfectly printed deep black and reds to sit upon the sullen gray stock giving this card a fitting end. Strong NM/MT+ condition bordering on MINT condition!
