The 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card is unquestionably the preeminent sports card of the mid to late 20th Century and brings instant admiration and credibility to any collection. If you've been in the market for a mid to high grade 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card over the past few months, chances are good that the unprecedented rise in prices realized has left you on the wrong side of a winning bid. Examples in PSA 8 grade have crossed the $400,000 barrier, bringing with it record prices at virtually every other grade level. So if it's your mission to secure a worthy specimen for your collection, here's one more opportunity to acquire baseball's most majestic post-war pasteboard. While not completely unique to '52 Topps Mantles, it is one of the few elite cards that is judged more for its centering than other defining characteristics. This PSA 6 example doesn't disappoint, framed mildly toward the northwest endpoint but well within specifications for an even higher grade and clearly ahead of most at this level. The strong framing is also the first thing you're bound to notice as the brightness of the white border seems amplified by the clean, bold blue aqua background encapsulating "The Commerce Comet," the second most favorable characteristic of this stunning issue. The corners and edges show typical signs of wear that fall within the EX/MT designation. If recent history is any predictor, you very well could be looking back at this card in several years, or even several weeks, lamenting the decision not to take that next bid and letting slip away an offer that will never come again!
