The 1948 Leaf collection is a troubled set in so many ways, yet advanced collectors bravely accept the incredible challenge of assembling the series in high-grade. Putting aside the seemingly endless list of unexplainable variations, the problems with color, image quality and centering with these poorly produced pasteboards limits the number of specimens reaching the grade of PSA 8 or above to around 8% - a ridiculously low rate that makes any high-grade acquisition cause waves on the PSA Set Registry. Any there's about to be a major shakeup when this 1948 Leaf PSA 8 rookie card of Doak Walker lands in a world-class collection. If you've had any experience at all with the '48 Leaf football series, the first thing you'll notice is the precise clarity of Walker's image as well as the intense, pack-fresh boldness of the red, white and orange-yellow coloring, totally stealing the spotlight from its almost unheard of perfect centering. Each corner and edge boasts NM/MT to NM/MT+ quality while the reverse, slightly favoring the right edge, is amazingly bright to match the front surface. Without a single specimen or record at PSA with a graded higher, this beauty is certain to be a significant addition.
