Graded NM/MT 88(8) by SGC. The Leaf Gum Company of Chicago had a long history in the confectionary business but in 1948 they decided to manufacture Baseball Cards on a National distribution basis, filling a void created by Gum Inc. not issuing cards after the 41' Play Ball issue as well as WWII and the paper shortages. If there was one player that could still sell gum it was the once Mighty Babe Ruth who had last played in 1935 but remained the most defining player in the history of game, and Leaf did issue a card of the famed Bambino, but it was Joltin' Joe DiMaggio who was pegged to start off the set in the esteemed pole position! The featured collectible is a pleasing and an exceptionally desirable pasteboard as it offers strong NM/MT or better corners as well as a nearly perfectly focused image of the pride of the Yankees. Centered slightly to the bottom but still well within the tolerances for the grade. As well the card offers strong deep well imaged colors and a pleasingly well imaged reverse. A stunning card offered in impressive NM/MT condition!
