Perhaps not the most significant of Joe DiMaggio cards ever produced, the 1941 Play Ball card of "The Yankee Clipper" is arguably the most beautiful, featuring Joe D. finishing his famous swing in the foreground of a rich yellow, green and deep purple colored backdrop. Had DiMaggio not sacrificed three seasons during the prime of his career to enlist in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII he would assuredly have hit 420-450 home runs and amassed approximately 1,900 runs batted in, which would put him on the doorstep of top 10 all-time. This colorized 1941 card of Joe DiMaggio is the linchpin of the Play Ball set and, in SGC 88 NM/MT 8 condition, will elevate any high-caliber collection to the status of world-class. Each corner appears to exceed the criteria for NM/MT while the interior is powered by a smashing colorful rendition of the Yankee legend. Centering is extremely close to perfection. Even for the elevated grade, this one is impressive!
