While Joe DiMaggio's career numbers don't rank among the all-time records in baseball, it's important to note that Joe D. sacrificed 3 seasons during the prime of his career to enlist in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII. Otherwise DiMaggio would assuredly have hit 420-450 home runs and amassed approximately 1,900 runs batted in, which would put him on the doorstep of top 10 all-time. Regardless, his 9 World Championships and 3 Most Valuable Player awards explain why his baseball cards remain among the most popular ever produced. One of the most important issues of the 1940s, the colorized 1941 card of Joe DiMaggio is the linchpin of the Play Ball set and, in PSA 8 condition, will elevate any high-caliber collection to the status of world-class. Each corner meets the criteria of NM/MT, with three of them presenting an argument for higher consideration, while the interior is powered by a smashing colorful rendition of the youthful "Yankee Clipper" in a batting pose that would wreak havoc on opponents throughout the '41 season. The bold purple, green, and yellow art-deco style pigment has held up well over its 70 years of existence, projecting a freshness that is impossible to deny. Centering is accurate though slightly favoring the bottom left corner, far too mild to play any significant role in the grading process. If you've been searching for a supremely nice copy of this iconic card, this is it!
