At one time, these paper variants were considered to be "salesman's samples." They were, at one time distributed in this form and sold for a penny a sheet back in the day. Gum, Inc. most likely issued these wafer-thin paper cards in sheet form due to the paper drives of the second World War, as cardboard quickly became a demandable war-time commodity. Identical in every way to Play Ball's 1941 card issue, with exception to the card stock. The paper variety is much more fragile, making high-grade specimens especially desirable. The offered lot consists of a dozen different subjects, all of which have been submitted to PSA for encapsulation. All 12 are relatively high grade, labeled as hand-cut, and most have received a grade of Authentic, unless noted. They are as follows: #'s 1 Miller, 5, 6 Hubbell, 9, 10 Vaughn (VG-EX 4), 11, 16 (VG-EX 4), 20 Ruffing, 21 Keller, 22, 23, and 24.
