When "The Kid" arrived on the major league scene in 1939, he was as brash as he was talented. And boy was he talented! As a 20 year old rookie, Ted led the league with 145 RBI and 344 total bases, extraordinary numbers for such a young hitter. He hammered out 44 doubles, 11 triples and 31 homers, letting everyone know he was a future baseball icon. During his rookie season, this 1939 Play Ball gum card was issued, a nicely centered specimen with four sharp NM/MT corners surrounding the crisp image of Ted, so clear you can see the piercing look that he routinely gave his worried opponents on the hill. The reverse is solidly struck, detailing Williams' recent conquests. Only a dozen examples are graded higher than this offered piece. A great example of Ted's rookie card!
