While the 1933 Goudey collection, along with the T206 tobacco and 1952 Topps sets, has risen to the zenith of vintage sports card compilations, the 94-card Canadian World Wide Gum issue has never seemed to be able to gain traction with collectors. As a result, the two examples of Babe Ruth in the WWG set, nearly identical in appearance to their Goudey counterpart, remain extremely undervalued given their scarcity. The offered specimen has been graded SGC 86 NM+ 7.5 and is the one and only specimen on the SGC pop report graded above NM. Even so, the evaluation is extremely conservative as this incredible pasteboard appears to have all the characteristics of NM/MT specifications. While there is no distinction by either PSA or SGC, this card has an English only reverse, somewhat more scarce than the bilingual English/French version distributed throughout most of Canada. The World Wide Gum series was produced on inferior cardboard stock, often showing marks and blemishes on the pasteboard that affect the print quality of the central image, but this beauty is perfectly sharp, projecting an incredible crispness that can rival any Ruth card in the Goudey series. Centered almost to perfection with edges and endpoints that compare favorably to higher graded contemporaries, we feel that the overall condition of this card is as good if not better than other WWG's or Goudeys that we've offered in a NM/MT holder over the years. The winning bidder will be getting an amazingly scarce prize that stands among the very best surviving specimens in existence!
