Virtually every advanced collector can describe, in great detail, the features of any issue bearing the likeness of "The Yankee Clipper" Joe DiMaggio, whether it's the legendary '38 Goudey, any of the Play Ball issues or even the Exhibit cards of the 40s and 50s. But ask about the 1933-1936 Zeenut card and you might get "huh?" as a response. That's because the Zeenut DiMaggio is extremely rare and probably missing from all but a few "Joltin" Joe" collections. Before his legendary run in the major leagues, Joe D. was tearing up the Pacific Coast League, batting .398 with 34 home runs and 270 hits in 1935. DiMaggio's first card, his "pre-rookie" card as it were, is this extremely rare specimen, missing the coupon but certainly appearing much stronger to the eye than a grade of SGC 10 POOR 1. The paper loss on the blank reverse accounts for the minimal grade, but is completely insignificant granted the amazing projection of the central image. Barely out of his teenage years, DiMaggio had conquered the PCL and is about to extend the Yankees' dynasty for several more decades until Mickey Mantle picks up the torch from there. Zeenut humorously misspelled his name as "DeMaggio" but it wouldn't be long before everyone knew how to spell it. Don't miss this opportunity to pick up the grand prize of the Joe DiMaggio checklist!
