Having retired as one of the greatest pitchers in major league history, Hall of Famer Walter Johnson took over as manager of the Washington Senators in 1929. Here's "The Big Train" shaking hands with Philadelphia Athletics skipper Connie Mack on this original type I photo, which measures 6 3/4" x 7 7/8" overall. The photo shows the usual light bumps and bruises on the surface expected of a photo dating almost one hundred years back but virtually no cracking on the surface. The reverse has a newspaper clipping of the photo, along with a caption, affixed to the reverse, and is date stamped April 24, 1929, Philadelphia's home opener.
