Patterned after the iconic T205 series, Piedmont Tobacco issued a collection in 1914 that brought back the famed gold border design in stamp format, with Ty Cobb once again leading the list of superstars and baseball legends with new subjects still being discovered every so often. The featured stamp is one of the true rarities of the extensive Ty Cobb library, a 1914 Piedmont Art Stamp with an elevated grade of SGC 60 EX 5, the highest assessment on record. SGC has graded 9 total specimens with one other sharing the EX grade while the experts at PSA have seen just 5 examples, one receiving a grade of PSA 5 with none higher. Being a stamp, the great drawback to a top grade is that the scant few that actually reached the general public often ended up in a stamp album, available with the redemption of 25 Piedmont coupons. This rare beauty was spared that fate, instead showing light spotting from the product that slightly restrains the grade. From the front, the stamp is magnificent with a NM caliber perimeter and a central image that is near perfectly centered while retaining that deep red and green color that made the T205 rendition so famous. A truly incredible find!
