The last of three annual issues distributed by Obak Cigarettes, a California branch of the American Tobacco Company, the 1911 edition featured the same six Pacific Coast League and four Northwestern League teams as in the past, but the card backs were changed in appearance, adding biographical information and statistics and printed with red ink instead of blue. Since Obaks were distributed in California and featured minor league players, a result of being so far away from the nearest major league team, they are thought to be far more scarce than T206 cards and nearly impossible to compile into a complete set. That's NEARLY impossible as this collection features every specimen in the 175-card assemblage, with all but one PSA graded. (Raymond - miscut). In fact, only one other set appears on the PSA Set Registry at slightly over 25% complete, making this an even more impressive collection that any advanced collector should strive to own. The majority of the cards are in the PSA 3 to PSA 6 range, with highlights being Jensen at PSA 7 and Buck Weaver of Black Sox fame at PSA 5, landing the set at a 4.070 overall GPA. Of the 174 graded specimens, 47 are one of ones, the only specimens to achieve their respective grade with none graded higher. Also included is one of the cigarette coupons that were collected and redeemed for Obak cabinet cards. This is an incredible assemblage that likely will never be duplicated! Please note, other than the Raymond card which was evaluated as miscut, one other card (Brown - PSA 4.5) does not appear on the Set Registry due to an error on the label that PSA will correct when sent for re-holdering.
