The current high bids for the cumulative group of singles, $22,609.00, is currently higher than the total for the complete set, $9,983.00 (this lot is currently winning)
No example of expert batsman Wee Willie Keeler has ever graded higher from the E97 C.A. Briggs Company Lozenges set than the presented SGC 60 EX 5 copy offered here, which makes a modicum of sense when we consider that Willie's 2,932 hits were second most all-time, behind only Cap Anson, when he retired in 1910, just after the production of the Briggs Company baseball cards. Keeler set many batting records during his career, including a 44-game hitting streak that was later broken by Joe DiMaggio and tied by Pete Rose, a 206 singles season in 1898 accomplished by hitting them "where they ain't" and broken a century later by Ichiro Suzuki, and an 8-year streak of 200 or more hits, also broken by Ichiro in 2008. A nice opportunity for high-grade type collectors to acquire one of the key cards to the challenging E97 set in its highest available grade.
