One of the most ornate and enigmatic sets of the pre-WWI era, Rose Company Postcards continue to surprise vintage collectors with new discoveries being made everyday to the already expansive checklist. One such recently unearthed specimen is this uncatalogued 1908-1909 Rose Postcard of leftfielder Patsy Dougherty. Though graded PSA 5, this example compares favorably to several of the higher graded specimens in this as well as past auctions. Moderate chipping along the bottom is tempered by above-grade, minimal chipping and wear at the top two corners, while the intricate, gold-embossed frame housing Dougherty's black and white portrait is delightfully intact. The reverse has some light spotting, no doubt the result of a century's worth of age, but overall this is a magnificent specimen that went unknown to the public ... until now that is!
