"In my day, the '90s, if you won only 20 games, the club owner would say 'You didn't do so good this year, we're going to cut your salary next season.'" -Kid Nichols. This was never a problem for Charles Augustus Nichols, who surpassed the 20-wins mark in each of his first 10 seasons and won 30 or more games 7 times, including leading the league in wins for three consecutive years from 1896-1898. He also believed in finishing what he started, going the distance in over 94% of his 562 career starts and winning 5 league championships in Boston. Delivered in stunning clarity on this 1895 May's Cut Plug issue, one of the finest in existence at a grade of SGC 60 EX 5, the nostalgic image of Nichols is supported by a sturdy black border that contains expected chipping that is relatively mild for the grade with corners that have a more perpendicular look than most cards at this grade possess. An incredibly rare 19th Century pasteboard in admirable EX condition!
