John Atkinson Leighton appears for the Omaha Omahogs/Lambs of the minor league Western Association on an N173 Old Judge Cabinet card, although he may never have played for the team. Examples of that card have been seen within the hobby, but the offered card, certainly cabinet sized and bearing the "Copyright 1889 Goodwin & Co, NY" notation, is of a different pose than on that card, and is in fact one of the poses shown on his standard N172 examples. This leads us to believe that this is a proof card that was left out of the N173 set. The card consists of a 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" photo affixed to an anonymous thick, yellow mount, that displays period pencil writing on the reverse along with evidence of the mount having been glued into an album at some point. The obverse shows a clear, well-registered image and neither the mount or the actual photo show any signs of paper loss.
