William Walter "Wally" Andrews spent the 1889 baseball season playing for the Omaha Omahogs/Lambs of the minor league Western Association, and he is listed in the Standard Catalog checklist for 1888-1889 Old Judge Cabinets (N173). The offered cabinet card bears the same image as his issued and circulated N173 cabinet; however, the Goodwin & Co copyright appears to be placed in a slightly different location, and the photo is affixed to an anonymous thick, yellow mount, rather than an Old Judge or Dog's Head mount, leading us to believe that this is possibly a proof card. The card consists of a 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" photo affixed to the aforementioned mount, which displays period pencil writing on the reverse along with evidence of the mount having been glued into an album at some point. The actual photograph shows a small, semicircular area of paper loss at the bottom edge, but the image offers tremendous contrast and clarity which many Old Judge collectors prefer over minor condition obstacles.
