Not to be confused with the George Miller who played for the Cincinnati Redstockings in 1887 and 1884, this is George F. "Doggie" Miller, catcher for the Pittsburgh Alleghenys at the time this N29 Allen & Ginter World's Champions tobacco card was produced. "Doggie" also appeared for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Browns and Louisville Colonels, racking up 1381 hits, 33 home runs and 567 RBI over a 13-year career. The offered 19th-century artifact has somehow survived for over 12 decades in outstanding NM 7 condition as determined by PSA. The image displays with tremendous contrast and clarity against a clean, white background, with hardly any signs of tobacco staining on either surface. Uniform light corner wear, which should be expected for a card of this age, accounts for the technical assessment, though visual appeal is considerably stronger. Just 3 examples have somehow, miraculously, graded higher, yet I can't imagine they look much better than this one.
