Unlike the standard Old Judge cards (N172) that were available in packs of cigarettes, these Old Judge cabinet cards, designated N173, were a premium that could only be obtained by exchanging coupons from Old Judge and Dogs Head brand cigarettes. Offered are two large-sized Old Judge cabinet cards that have survived since 1888 and are destined to reach an avid collector's prized assemblage. Featuring pitcher Ed Seward and manager Gus Schmelz, the thick cardboard backing has been trimmed down slightly, both measuring 4-3/16" x 6", but the central images are intact and display beautifully, given their advanced age. Two fantastic showpieces!
