Charles John Crooks played for two seasons with the Omaha Omahogs/Lambs of the minor league Western Association, in 1888 and 1889. He is listed in the Standard Catalog under the 1888-1889 Old Judge cabinets as an unrecorded pose, and offered here is what we believe to be a proof card bearing the 1888 Goodwin & Co, NY copyright that was taken by the same photographer used for the N173 issue, that never made it into the set. The card consists of a 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" photo that has been affixed to an anonymous thick, yellow mount. There is period handwriting on the reverse along with some paste and paper residue indicating that at least the mount had been glued into an album. The obverse shows minor water damage, but the image on the photo is largely unaffected.
