William H. "Dad" Clarke pitched for the Chicago White Stockings in 1888, and also for the minor league Omaha Omahogs/Lambs from 1888-1889 before returning to the major leagues. He is listed under the N173 Old Judge Cabinets checklist in the standard catalog with two poses; however, the offered cabinet card matches neither of those poses, but bears the "Copyright 1888 Goodwin & Co, NY" notation, leading us to believe that this is a proof card that was left out of the set. The card consists of a 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" photo affixed to an anonymous thick, yellow mount, that displays period pencil writing on the reverse along with evidence of the mount having been glued into an album at some point. Some minor blemishes appear along the right edge of the obverse, but the central image is unaffected.
