Graded EX+ 70 by Sportscard Guaranty, is this attractive batting variation of Hall of Famer John Clarkson. This is an unusual pose in that Clarkson, of course, was one of the greatest pitchers of the nineteenth century. In 1887, the year of issue, he led the league with 38 wins. However known for his pitching prowess, Clarkson may also have had good reason to be proud of his hitting capabilities. In 215 plate appearances, he hit a very respectable .242, while belting five home runs. A very well centered card, with nice image quality, no creases, all the while depicting Clarkson in front of a backdrop of the ballpark and surrounding city.
