Captain John Montgomery Ward was one of the most prolific base-stealers in the game's history. Stolen base statistics were not recorded until 1886, so the number of stolen bases Ward had during his first 8 seasons is unknown, but his 540 steals over his final 9 seasons suggests he could be the only player other than Rickey Henderson with over 1,000 steals. Pictured on his rare Old Judge issue, Ward's image is still quite clear after well over a century. Graded PSA 4 with an (MK) qualifier due to a stamped name on the back, a common practice at the time. PSA has only graded two others of this variety.
