The 1887 Buchner Gold Coin set, also known at N284, contained many noted 19th century stars such as King Kelly, Charlie Comiskey, and Buck Ewing. While not as well recognized as the Allen & Ginter issue of the same time frame, the 143 card Gold Coin set is a worthwhile addition to any collection. Offered here is a high quality specimen from the Gold Coin set, Joe Mulvey (Hands on knees variation) graded SGC EX 60. To the naked eye, each of the four corners has retained its edge with virtually no evidence of rounding. The beautifully centered perimeter surrounds a well printed and colorfully distinct portrait of a 19th century ballplayer ready to advance at the crack of the bat. The reverse has some age marks that you would expect from an 1887 issue but the print is clear and easy to read.
