Offered is arguably one of the most intriguing examples from our small collection of original Carl J. Horner photographs. An utterly brilliant 3-7/8 x 5-1/2" image of baseball's only Swiss-born player, Otto C. Hess, is affixed to a predominantly NM mount that measures approximately 5-1/8 x 7-1/4" and features the familiar Carl J. Horner stamp above a far less familiar studio address of 387 Washington St., a studio location rarely encountered on original Horner cabinets. In fact, our research confirms only one other similar cabinet with this studio address, a Frank Baker example that sold in auction for more than $13,000 back in 2005. The image of Hess, a member of the 1914 World Series champion "Miracle Braves," is positively unimprovable, with such precise focus that the admiring enthusiast can easily perceive the fibers of his Naps jersey as well is the individual hairs of his curly mop and the thin veins in the white of his eyes. The mount does display three fine pinholes, one along the top right border, the other two along the extreme left border, none of which detract from the excellently preserved state of this original Carl Horner studio masterpiece.
