The 1940 Lone Ranger series is one of the most popular non-sports sets ever issued, thanks largely to the brilliant artwork of Charles Steinbacher, who for 30 years was Art Director at the George Moll advertising agency in Philadelphia. After Steinbacher passed away in 1966, a cache of his original artwork was found in his personal safe, one item being the beautiful piece offered here. This miniature 5-7/8" x 7" painting represents the artistic genius of Steinbacher as part of the Lone Ranger series. Originally planned as a 60-card series, it was cut down to 48 cards, with this "extension" artwork slated to be used in production for card #59, "The Bear Cubs." The painting has a "59" written on the bottom left corner and reverse, with a signature from a representative of The Lone Ranger Inc. on the reverse.
